Description

Chronos (Ancient Greek: Χρόνος, "time," also transliterated as Khronos or Latinized as Chronus) is the personification of Time in pre-Socratic philosophy and later literature.

I've been absent for DA for a bit but I've been a busy girl trying to get some art ready to submit to a gallery I recently joined up with. I might not be active here but I'm very active outside of here! I'll be sure to upload my pieces on here when I'm done though.

Anyhow this is the first piece that I did basically personifying "Chronos", or the flow of time. We have the massive figure of 'Chronos' - an androgynous blind figure that's body twists into an hourglass - holding the clock of time within its hands with the message "Death Is Certain, The Hour Is Not" within it. Around the base of Chronos we have 3 figures, the female on the left is dead and the man holding her won't let go as he mourns her. The third figure - male or female - is mourning knowing they won't ever escape the hands of time.
...the bottom figure that is supporting all the imagery is a sort of self-portrait. She doesn't look like me but sometimes it feels like you have the weight of the world on your shoulders... or hair in this case.

A pretty dark piece but it's a fact of life. We will all yield to the call of time and our hour of death but we don't need fear it. Either you sleep eternally or life after death will be an adventure but first you must meet The Chronos!

I thought about this piece too much...

This was a learning experience since I'd never drawn on wood before and I must say I quite like it and will keep doing it. Had plenty of 'rip my hair out' moments when I kept dripping large blots of ink on the image.... that's why there's a skull on Chrono's shoulder with "feathers" aka ink blot. That is also why there's a bunch of ink blots on the image...had an accident with spilt ink and splatters... -__-. I rolled with it and I think it turned out well enough. :la:

Forgive the terrible photo I will work on my photography skills lol. Looks much better in person.

Materials: India Ink and Gold Leaf on Wood.
